Coaching

The Head First style of coaching

Every coaching session is designed with our client's culture and individual requirements at the forefront of our minds. We use a wide range of practical techniques to work on a development issue for a client and then, through coaching, act as a 'tour guide' to enable the client to solve the issue. Our coaching work addresses a diverse range of topics and we often find the issue a client thinks they have is not always at the root of the problem.

Head First Coachees

"The danger with coaching lies in the perceived need for the coach to appear brilliant, to be seen to have all the answers. When coaches are focussed on looking wonderfully clever, they do not listen for long enough. Coaches need to realise that the brilliant person is the client. The coach's job is to help the client to discover that"
Nancy Kline, Time to Think

Understanding the real issue

Sometimes we all lack the awareness we need to appreciate how our behaviour impacts on others. So many people are blind to their weaknesses because they have never had them pointed out before. We find that people really appreciate how a diagnostic tool can help them to develop the self awareness they need to identify and accept their training needs.
We use a variety of such tools in one to one sessions from the simple, such as:

- Career Anchors
- Influencing Styles
- Learning Styles

to the more sophisticated, such as:

    - The Myers Briggs Type Indicator
    - Firo B
    - The Good Boss Index
    - The Emotional Intelligence Competency Inventory

The benefits of coaching

How many times have you attended a training course where only a part of the content was applicable to you?
Coaching offers a more targeted approach. Coaching works at the pace of the coachee, and is focused on individual needs, issues and goals. Building up an open relationship, based on mutual trust enables limiting beliefs and restrictive attitudes to be unearthed and addressed. Tailoring a practical solution to work-based issues can be achieved on a one-to-one basis far better than in a group. All Head First coaches have a high level of coaching expertise which they use to challenge and support, where appropriate.

Sustainability

Delegates attending courses retain far more information if they are supported and coached when they return to work.
We offer a range of flexible mentoring and coaching services to help successfully apply skills back in the workplace, such as telephone coaching and online support.
We can provide your line managers with the tools to effectively coach the delegates you identify for training when they return to work. You set the objectives and select the activities for the delegate to complete.  We process the results and provide easy to understand feedback that can be used to measure progress against the initial objective.

"My coach instantly put me at ease and I left the session with a clear idea of exactly what I needed to do to resolve an issue that had been holding me back for years"

Julie Dalton, Managing Director, Gulliver's Theme Parks
